Woodcarvers

Are you new to the craft and would like to find out more? Are you a veteran carver who wants to practice with a group and share your experiences? We have all skill levels.
There are no membership dues. This friendly, relaxed group meets every Wednesday from 8:30 – 11:30 AM in the Manor Craft Room on the second floor. It has been said that this group “has often solved all the world’s problems.” They have also been called “Talkers with a carving problem.”

We are a loose-knit group whose numbers vary with the season. Some of us take our carving projects more seriously than others. For some, sitting with a piece in progress in front of you is a perfect opportunity to just hang with the carvers for a while and recap the news of the week. No pressure. No competition. There is always room for one more at the table.

Our projects are as varied as the individuals around the table.

  • Herb was working on a relief carving. Take a flat piece of wood, sketch or trace a pattern onto the surface, and dig in. It sounds easy when you say it fast, but the results can be astounding with some practice.
  • Ken is carving a chain.
  • Hal does figurines with eyes that watch you and 3D reliefs of natural settings.
  • Doris has been recognized for an incredible relief carving of birds in a tree.
  • David has been known for stories about his hand carvings made from Zimbabwe Albino Palm (AKA Azek – a plastic architectural trim board).

If you are curious about wood carving, please stop by Wednesday morning and see what is happening.
